My take on Jurgen Mayer’s Villa Dupli…
Jurgen Mayer, redefining the domestic scene with his Casa Dupli. A deconstructivist mass, defined by undulating plastic walls, makes its mark on the German countryside. Peering through heavy walls, punched openings reveal the interior to the lush landscape, while a strict black and white colour palette juxtaposes its’ rural setting. It may be considered as a precedent for contemporary domestic living, which pushes the boundaries in terms of architectural home design. In an era which is increasingly being defined by its incorporation of parametric modelling and digital design, the Casa Dupli is a considered approach on how it can be applied on a domestic scale. However, its success as an environment for living is yet to be determined, as is its place on the canon of domestic architecture.
